Shoulder Arthroscopy in Raipur

Keyhole shoulder surgery for rotator cuff tears, repeated dislocations and other shoulder problems with Dr. Sameer Mittal at Suyash Hospital, Raipur. Non-surgical care is tried first whenever it is appropriate.

Shoulder Care

Shoulder pain when lifting the arm, or a shoulder that slips out?

Pain when reaching overhead, trouble sleeping on one side, weakness, or a shoulder that has dislocated more than once all need a clear diagnosis. The cause may be a rotator cuff problem, a torn labrum after dislocation, stiffness, or even pain referred from the neck.

Dr. Sameer Mittal (MBBS, D.Ortho, DNB Orthopaedics; CMC Reg. No. 3016/2010) evaluates shoulder problems and performs arthroscopic (keyhole) shoulder surgery at Suyash Hospital, Raipur.

Who it is for

Common reasons for a shoulder consultation

  • Night pain and weakness when lifting the arm, often from a rotator cuff problem
  • One or more shoulder dislocations, or a feeling that the shoulder may slip out
  • An MRI report mentioning a cuff tear, labral (Bankart) tear or biceps problem
  • Stiffness with loss of rotation, for example a frozen shoulder pattern
  • Overhead pain in gym, swimming or throwing sports

Clinical tests, X-rays and, when needed, MRI help avoid treating the wrong structure. The neck is also checked, because neck problems can cause shoulder pain.

First steps

Non-surgical care is usually tried first

  • Load management and changes to the activities that provoke pain
  • Physiotherapy for shoulder blade control and rotator cuff strength
  • Medicines for short periods, when safe
  • Injections for selected patients

Many partial cuff problems and some first-time dislocations are managed with rehabilitation and monitoring. Surgery may be discussed for persistent weakness, larger tears in active people, repeated dislocations, or when non-surgical care has not helped.

The procedure

What shoulder arthroscopy involves

Shoulder arthroscopy uses a small camera and instruments passed through a few small incisions to examine and treat the joint. Depending on the findings, it may include:

  • Rotator cuff repair using suture anchors
  • Bankart (labral) repair for repeated dislocations
  • Latarjet or remplissage procedures when there is bone loss
  • Treatment of biceps-related pain, or release of a stiff shoulder in selected cases

Open surgery is still the right choice for some problems; the approach is chosen to suit the condition. Sling use, exercises and follow-up visits are explained before consent.

Recovery

What recovery generally looks like

Recovery after a shoulder repair often takes longer than people expect from the word “keyhole”, because repaired tissue needs time to heal. Tear size, diabetes, smoking and following the sling rules all matter. This is general information, not a promise.

  • Protection phase: sling as advised; only the exercises you are allowed
  • Movement phase: gradual assisted and then active movement with physiotherapy
  • Strength phase: progressive strengthening once healing allows
  • Work and sport: desk work usually returns earlier than overhead labour or contact sport; clearance is clinical

Stiffness, re-tear, infection and repeat instability are known risks. Read more in the rotator cuff and dislocation article.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Does every rotator cuff tear need surgery?

No. Many partial tears, and some full-thickness tears in less active people, are treated first with physiotherapy and activity changes. Repair is considered when pain and weakness persist or the tear type and lifestyle support it.

Do I need surgery after a shoulder dislocation?

A first dislocation is often managed with reduction, a short period of protection and rehabilitation. Repeated dislocations or high-risk sport may lead to stabilisation surgery. Imaging and examination guide the decision.

How long will I need a sling?

It depends on the procedure and the quality of the tissue repaired. Your discharge instructions will give the rule for your case.

What does shoulder arthroscopy cost in Raipur?

Cost depends on the procedure, the number of anchors or implants, room category, physiotherapy and your insurance. Cashless treatment may be available depending on your insurer and the hospital’s empanelment. An estimate is shared after consultation.

Can a frozen shoulder be treated with arthroscopy?

Most frozen shoulders are treated without surgery, using time, guided physiotherapy and selected injections. Arthroscopic release is reserved for specific cases that do not improve.
