Second Opinion for Knee and Hip Replacement in Raipur

Have you been advised knee or hip replacement and want to be sure before you decide? Dr. Sameer Mittal, orthopaedic and joint replacement surgeon at Suyash Hospital, Raipur, will review your history, examination and imaging with you, and talk through every reasonable option, including non-surgical care.

Why people seek one

When a second opinion makes sense

Joint replacement is a major decision. It is entirely reasonable to want another specialist's view before going ahead, and a careful surgeon will welcome it. People commonly ask for a second opinion when:

  • they have been told they need a knee or hip replacement and want to understand the reasons and the alternatives;
  • the advice they received differs from what another doctor said;
  • they are unsure about the timing, or whether to treat one joint or both;
  • they have had a joint replacement and have ongoing pain, stiffness or a concern about the implant;
  • they want a partial rather than a total replacement explained, or want to know if it applies to them.

Different surgeons can reasonably advise differently. A second opinion is not a judgement on your first doctor.

Before you come

What to bring to the visit

Imaging

X-rays (ideally the films or the digital copies), and any MRI or CT scan, along with the written reports.

Records

Previous prescriptions, physiotherapy notes, injection records, and discharge summaries if you have had earlier surgery. For a revision concern, bring the implant details card if you have it.

Health details

A list of your current medicines, allergies, and long-term conditions such as diabetes, blood pressure or heart problems, and recent blood test reports.

Your questions

Write down what worries you: pain, walking, work, recovery, cost, timing. The visit is meant to answer them.

At the consultation

What the second-opinion visit covers

  • A detailed history of your symptoms, what you have already tried, and how the problem affects your daily life.
  • A clinical examination of the knee or hip, including movement, alignment and walking.
  • A review of your X-rays and other reports, compared with what the examination shows.
  • A clear discussion of the options, which may include continued non-surgical care, a different procedure, or replacement, with the benefits, risks and limits of each.
  • Time for your questions, so that the decision stays with you and your family.

Surgery is advised only when examination and imaging support it. If the best option for you is not surgery, or not yet, you will be told so.

Options first

Non-surgical care is always discussed

Depending on your joint and its condition, options that may be discussed include structured physiotherapy and strengthening, weight management, activity changes, walking aids, bracing, pain-relief medicines, and selected injections. These do not repair a worn joint, but in many people they can ease symptoms for a period, and the right choice depends on your examination and imaging. Replacement is considered when pain and disability continue despite adequate non-surgical care.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Will I be pushed towards surgery?

No. The aim of the visit is to give you an honest assessment and a clear list of options. Surgery is discussed only if your examination and imaging support it, and the decision is yours.

Do I have to leave my current surgeon?

No. A second opinion is simply another specialist’s view. You can take it back to your own doctor, continue there, or choose to move your care. It is your decision.

Is this only for people who have been told to have a replacement?

No. It is also suitable if you are unsure whether you need surgery yet, if you have been advised a partial replacement, or if you have a concern after a previous joint replacement.

Can I send my reports instead of coming in?

Reports are very useful, but a sound opinion about joint replacement usually needs an examination as well. Please bring your reports to the clinic. You can message the clinic on WhatsApp to book a slot.

What if my opinion differs from the first one?

Reasonable specialists can differ, for example on timing or on the type of procedure. Dr. Mittal will explain the reasons behind his view so that you can compare them and decide.

Which clinic should I choose?

Suyash Hospital, Raipur is the main OPD. There is also an evening clinic at Balaji Medicare, Fafadih, and a visiting clinic in Bilaspur on alternate Sundays. Please call to confirm your slot.
