Second Opinion for Knee and Shoulder Arthroscopy in Raipur

Been advised keyhole surgery for a knee or shoulder problem, or told to wait? Dr. Sameer Mittal, orthopaedic and arthroscopy surgeon at Suyash Hospital, Raipur, will review your history, examination and scans with you and explain every reasonable option, including treatment without surgery.

Why people seek one

When a second opinion makes sense

Arthroscopy is a keyhole procedure, but it is still surgery, and not every knee or shoulder problem needs it. People commonly ask for a second opinion when:

  • an MRI shows a meniscus, ligament, cartilage or rotator cuff problem and they are unsure whether surgery is needed or whether it can wait;
  • they have been advised an ACL reconstruction and want to understand the timing, the choices and the recovery;
  • a shoulder keeps dislocating or feels unstable, or pain and weakness continue despite treatment;
  • two doctors have given them different advice;
  • symptoms have continued after a previous arthroscopy or ligament surgery.

Scan findings do not always match symptoms. Many people have changes on an MRI that cause no trouble, so the decision rests on the examination and your needs, not on the report alone.

ACL and other ligament injuries, meniscus tears, cartilage damage, locking or giving way, and knee pain after a twisting injury.

At the consultation

What the visit covers

  • A detailed history: how the problem began, what makes it better or worse, and what you need from your knee or shoulder, for work, sport or daily life.
  • A clinical examination of the joint, including movement, stability and strength.
  • A review of your MRI, X-rays and reports, set against what the examination shows.
  • A clear discussion of options: rest, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, medicines or injections where suitable, or arthroscopic surgery, with the benefits, risks and limits of each.
  • Time for your questions, so that the decision stays with you.

Surgery is advised only when examination and imaging support it. If the better course is to wait or to rehabilitate, you will be told so.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Will I be told to have surgery?

Not unless it is the right option for you. Many knee and shoulder problems improve with rehabilitation, and surgery is discussed only when your examination and scans support it. The decision is yours.

My MRI shows a tear. Does that mean I need arthroscopy?

Not always. Some tears cause symptoms and need treatment, and others are found incidentally and cause no trouble. The examination and how the joint is behaving matter as much as the scan.

Can an ACL tear be treated without surgery?

Some people manage with structured rehabilitation, depending on their age, activity and how stable the knee is. Others have a knee that keeps giving way, and reconstruction may be discussed. It is an individual decision.

I have had arthroscopy before and still have pain. Can I come for an opinion?

Yes. Please bring your earlier operation notes and scans so that the findings and your current symptoms can be reviewed together.

Do I have to leave my current doctor?

No. A second opinion is another specialist’s view. You can take it back to your own doctor or choose to move your care.

Can I send my reports instead of coming in?

Reports help, but a sound opinion about a knee or shoulder usually needs an examination too. Please bring your reports to the clinic, and message on WhatsApp to book a slot.

Also considering knee or hip replacement? Second opinion for joint replacement.
